Wilhelm Friedrich Huff was born January 9, 1843, at Gross Golle, Province of Posen, German (now Poznan, Poland), the son of Christoph and Renate (Spitzer) Huff. There he married on July 23, 1868, Louise Ernstena Schramm, born November 26, 1847, in Posen, the daughter of Peter and Caroline (Schmidt) Schramm [Note 1]. To them were born elevan children, of which seven reached maturity: (i) Martha Emilie Huff, born April 16, 1869; (ii) Nathalie "Nettie" Johanna Huff, born July 23, 1873; (iii) Enno Emil Huff, born August 11, 1876; (iv) Edith Emma Huff, born November 18, 1878; (v) Ernest Walter Huff, born March 26, 1881; (vi) Clara Charlotte Huff, born July 12, 1883; and (vii) Richard Herman Huff, born January 9, 1886. The family portrait below shows the seven children standing behind their parents. From left to right: Edith, Walter, Martha, Richard, Clara, Enno and Nettie.
[1] - Both the order of her first and middle names, as well as their spelling, are variable. Her obituary calls her "Earnestina Louise," while in other records her name is "Louise Ernestine." The oldest entry in the Huff Family Reunion scrapbook, however, calls her "Louise Ernstena."
